Ipswich Preview – Friday 9 August 2024

Friday racing returns to Ipswich this week where nine races will be run and won.
The rail is out 10m the entire course with a soft racing surface looking most likely.
Our top selections in each race can be found below.
Race 1 - 11:36AM TAB Maiden Plate (2210 METRES)
1 Ain’t Nobody
Ain’t Nobody was luckless last start over 1710m at this track when finishing 1.9 lengths fourth.
The Neasham & Archibald-trained son of More Than Ready loomed large in the straight but got pocketed badly behind the leader and only got out when it was too late.
He’s only lightly raced and should be at peak fitness fourth-up.
There looks to be good speed in the race which should see Ryan Maloney find a spot midfield or slightly better before launching late.

Race 2 - 12:11PM BARRIER REEF POOLS QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate (800 METRES)
10 Tipsy Tiger
This is a tricky maiden over 800m with only the emergencies having raced before.
I’m going with one of the debutantes in Tipsy Tiger.
The Tony Gollan-trained Jungle Cat filly warmed up for this with a solid trial over 1000m at Doomben where she settled back before working to the line strongly to finish 3.1 lengths third.
She will start from barrier 2 which is a massive benefit over these scampers.

Race 3 - 12:49PM LANCE'S 50TH MIDLIFE CRISIS Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap (1100 METRES)
2 Glissa
Glissa is on debut for new trainer Desleigh Forster after previously racing in New South Wales with Ciaron Maher.
The four-year-old well-bred mare has had two trials since arriving in Queensland and looked particularly good in the most recent working strongly through the line for a neck third at Doomben.
She came out neutral in both those trials but did show excellent early speed in her first trial at Kembla Grange last year where she led from start to finish.
Angela Jones is a key booking and will give her mount every chance.

Race 4 - 1:24PM HAPPY 18TH LUCA Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap (1100 METRES)
2 Ready Neddy Go
Ready Neddy Go heads to the races for the first time following a trial win over 1000m at Doomben.
The Chris Anderson-trained mare showed good gate speed to lead and was never asked for an effort by Michael Rodd as she cruised to a narrow win.
While her overall time wasn’t slick, she appeared to have a lot more in the tank.
The wide gate isn’t ideal, but Kyle Wilson-Taylor will be able to drive forward and find a prominent position given there doesn’t appear to be a great deal of speed in the race.

Race 5 - 1:59PM IMPERIAL RACING Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Handicap (1100 METRES)
1 Simply Excels
Simply Excels faces a raceday starter for the first time after a solid effort in a recent Doomben trial.
The Tony Gollan-trained son of Exceed And Excel recovered from a slow getaway to find the line well under his own steam for a 2.3 length third.
His stablemate Turn The Corner went across the line with him and he’s since finished second in a city maiden.
Jimmy Orman being booked to ride is a good indicator towards the stable’s thoughts on his chances.

Race 6 - 2:34PM GORDON'S GIN Class 4 Handicap (1100 METRES)
1 Shot Of Whiskey
Shot Of Whiskey has come back this preparation in fine form with two wins from as many starts.
The Matt Hoysted-trained gelding was sent to Toowoomba for a first-up scalp and he duly saluted, easily accounting for his rivals in a 2.5 length win.
He followed that up with a strong effort to hold on for a head victory over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast.
He’ll strip fitter third-up and maps to get the run of the race for Boris Thornton.

Race 7 - 3:09PM GREAT NORTHERN Class 1 Handicap (1710 METRES)
1 Explicable
Explicable has settled in well at Marcus Wilson’s Gold Coast stable after previously racing in Victoria.
The son of Justify was tenacious when winning his first race in Wilson’s care two starts back over 1350m at this track.
He followed it up with a brave effort when racing in the wrong part of the track to finish just under a length third over 1526m at Lismore.
Kyle Wilson-Taylor rode him to victory here two starts back and will again climb back in the irons.
The rise in distance suits and he should enjoy a great run.

Race 8 - 3:44PM SCHWEPPES Fillies and Mares RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap (1350 METRES)
3 Storm Dreamer
Storm Dreamer defied a market hatred for her last start when working to the line well to finish just under a length fourth over 1200m at Doomben.
The Munce Racing mare has been racing in consistent form this preparation and broke her maiden status two starts back over 1400m at Gatton.
She will appreciate the return to Ipswich where she finished second in her only previous race over this course and distance.
This looks the right level race for her and I’d expect Sam Collett to give her every chance from barrier 2.

Race 9 - 4:24PM RAY WHITE IPSWICH Colts, Geldings and Entires RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap (1350 METRES)
10 Parues
Parues is on the quick back-up after running a bold race over this course and distance last Friday.
The Desleigh Forster-trained gelding led and put up a good fight but was run down late by Zattastar to finish a head second.
He’s rock hard fit and will appreciate the drop in class.
Taylor Marshall retains the ride and will look to go forward to negate the wide gate.
