Does it get any better than Friday racing at Ipswich?
Seven races are scheduled to be run and won today on what will be an improving Soft track with the rail out 3m the entire course.
We’ve done the hard work for you and provided our top selections in each race.
Race 1 - 1:24PM CHERY IPSWICH Maiden Plate (800 METRES)
5 So Yes It Is
So Yes It Is resumes here for new trainer Billy Healey after previously racing in New South Wales.
The four-year-old gelding raced fairly over similar distances while down there and that form looks good enough to line up here.
He warmed up for this first-up assignment with a nice trial win where he led all the way at Doomben without being asked for an effort.
Ipswich premiership winning jockey Jimmy Orman is a key booking.
Selections: 5-7-9-8
Race 2 - 1:59PM TAB BM70 Handicap (800 METRES)
1 Writtle
Writtle recently resumed over 1050m at Toowoomba where he hit the front in the straight but was run down to finish a length second.
The Lindsay Hatch-trained gelding is much better suited over this shorter scamper being undefeated in three starts over 860m at Gatton and going down by a nose in his only previous start over this course and distance.
He’ll strip fitter second-up and while he has a big weight to contend with, he did carry 62.5kg to a 2.3 victory at Gatton in his final start last preparation.
Justin Huxtable has a good association with the horse and can settle just off the speed.
Selections: 1-2-7-4
Race 3 - 2:34PM BARRIER REEF POOLS QTIS Three-Years-Old Maiden Plate (800 METRES)
13 Rebellious Spirit
It’s been some time coming but Rebellious Spirit makes her debut in this scamper.
The Tony Gollan-trained filly has had trials across three preparations but it was her most recent piece of work that suggests she’s ready for a bold showing.
She led the 1000m Doomben trial all the way where she defeated a stablemate and last start winner.
Angela Jones can give her a great run from a low draw.
Selections: 13-5-3-9
Race 4 - 3:14PM THE CATON SCRAMBLE Maiden Plate (1350 METRES)
15 Ruins Of Rome
Ruins Of Rome produced a real eye-catcher when debuting over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast last start.
The Chris & Corey Munce-trained gelding settled a long last after drawing the outside barrier but rocketed home to finish 0.7L third.
He’ll have taken benefit from the run and given how powerfully he ran through the line, the rise to 1350m looks ideal.
Strong rider Justin Huxtable takes the ride.
Selections: 15-3-7-4
Race 5 - 3:54PM CROWNE REAL ESTATE GEOFF & ALLEY Class 1 Plate (1100 METRES)
1 Antonito
Antonito went way too hard in front last start over 1200m at Eagle Farm and not surprisingly weakened badly to finish 3.8 lengths sixth.
A senior jockey goes back on the David Vandyke-trained gelding which should alleviate that problem as will the slight drop in distance.
Prior to that she produced two very good efforts to finish a head second at Doomben as well as the Sunshine Coast.
Noel Callow will drive forward and settle in a prominent position.
Selections: 1-18-6-11
Race 6 - 4:34PM GREAT NORTHERN Class 1 Handicap (1680 METRES)
3 Miss Chenery
Miss Chenery ran well when resuming over 1350m here last start.
The Chris Waller-trained mare was taken to the back from the wide barrier before rocketing to the line down the outside to finish a half-length second.
She’ll appreciate the drop in class and the rise in distance suits given her only win came over 1550m at Canterbury.
Jimmy Orman can settle just off what looks a strong speed before launching in the straight.
Selections: 3-2-1-8
Race 7 - 5:10PM TOTAL CLUB MANAGMENT 0 - 58 Handicap (1350 METRES)
9 Lavoni
Lavoni produced an excellent performance when resuming over 1200m at Warwick last start.
The Jack Bruce-trained daughter of Encryption raced three-wide but still let down powerfully to win comfortably by 1.8 lengths.
She’s only lightly raced so has plenty of upside and this doesn’t look much harder than last start’s maiden.
The rise in distance looks ideal and while she’s drawn a touch sticky, there does look good speed drawn under her which should see Sam Collett slide across and find some cover.
Selections: 9-2-16-7
